Onan’s Hand

A work coming from the Book of Genesis. Onan was the second son of Judah. He would have been killed by God after he had refused the levirate marriage (in which he had to marry his deceased marry his brother’s widow for having children), saying he preferred « spilling his seed on the ground ».

Several writers and critics focused the reading on the spilling seed and sexual act. But contraception, pleasure or liberty against unfair laws ?

Bruno Di Martino looks at Onan like a promothean character deciding to make his own choice for his life even though this choice means having to die.

This spectacular and large scale sculpture created by Bruno Di Martino has been exhibited and tributed at Grand Palais, the famous french Museum and international place of arts (FIAC, Biennale des antiquaires). The monumental bronze for sale is produced since the purchase by the artist after the original plaster painted with patina. The photos show the original painted plaster.
