Descriptif

Adriaen Van de Veld is a famous dutch painter and engraver from 17th century, especially talented for representing animals through paintings, drawings and etchings. We know approximately twenty etchings from the hand of Adriaen Van de Velde. His work is near of Karel Dujardin and Paulus Potter.

This superb etching represents a recumbent goat and a lamb. The goat in three quarter view to right with head almost in profile with at left a broad-leaved plant. At a little distance a lamb standing to left with head turned around to right as if grooming itself.

We find only a print after this etching by the engraver Benjamin Phelps Gibbon, today in the British Museum Collection.
