Descriptif
Very interesting and historical Survage’s gouache, famous artist, both cubist and symbolist, who worked worlwide since 1922 with theaters, ballets and operas.
An original gouache showing the quality of his colourist art and taste for geometric (here mainly structured by colours) and symbolist composition probably linked to a Survage’s work for The Metropolitan Opera, New York, that played Les contes d’Hoffmann in 1937, the year of this gouache. It was one of the stunning gouaches all different created by this extraordinary modern artist for the opera decors of Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
